Future Diary: Mosaic is a spin-off manga of the Future Diary series. It features Minene Uryu as the main character and focuses on her endeavours before and after she acquired her Diary. This manga is canon to the original series.

Summary

Future Diary: Mosaic is about a few days prior to the original events and is mostly about Minene Uryu and how she met the other diary owners. It is also about how she got her Future Diary and what made her make the decisions she made in the original events.

First chapter

The first chapter of the manga is an introduction of Minene before she gets to the Survival Game. She is placed in the Sakurami Police Station going by the identity as Natsuko Ooshima, as she is known as an international wanted criminal and naturally, she would like to retrieve information from the police. She is soon paired up with Masumi Nishijima under a mission to stop Minene herself from killing Catholic Church's Cardinal, Father Fred Haiman, who's staying at the Sakurami Empire Hotel's 27th floor.

She is later next day shown placing an TNT bomb of her own in order to kill Haiman, however her plan of collapsing the building fails when Nishijima finds her.

After her failed plan of bombing the hotel, she is soon seen again with another chance of killing her target, as she gets a chance to deliver Haiman's food and naturally, she poisons his meal. However, she fails again due to Nishijima.

The third day she finally gets her chance to kill Haiman as she gets to plant her bomb in peace and the explosion is soon seen coming from room 2706, the room which Minene's target happened to stay in. Haiman is not shown dead, much to Minene's surprise. Nishijima puts her under arrest as Keigo Kurusu uncovers that she is not the real Natsuko Ooshima, as the real Natsuko was killed by Minene. Soon she reveals her true identity and absconds quickly, however she falls down instead due to Kurusu breaking the tie she was using to get down. She does not die, however. As she is slowly going down, she meets her childhood-self and short after she also sees Muru Muru, which explains the power of the Future Diary. Later she is shown talking to Deus Ex Machina and so, Minene Uryu the 9th is born.

Second chapter

In the second chapter Minene is first shown in the Sakurami City Mountains, where she seems to be chased by someone she is unknown of who actually is, however it is later revealed to be one of 6th's people. Soon a silhouette of a man is shown, which happens to be the 12th Diary Holder, Yomotsu Hirasaka, and Minene is then found laying in a bed. When she finally wakes up, 12th brings her to a doctor to see after her eye after it got damaged by Yukiteru's dart.

12th and Minene joins up as a team after a discussion between them, and Minene is later picked up by an ambulance 12th called after, however the "doctors" later turns out to be one of 6th's people, and Minene is later shown captured by 12th, because of the reason that he was given a mission to catch Minene herself before any of the other people that are considered as one of 6th's followers, in order to infiltrate the Onukata region.

Third chapter

In the third chapter you see Minene visiting a shadow doctor, a doctor who takes care of criminals who are unable to visit a normal doctor. They are discussing the child which also happens to be visiting the same shadow doctor as Minene. His parents were killed under the "Omekata incident".

Minene goes out only a few seconds after to check on the kid, which is actually Reisuke Houjou, the 5th Diary Holder. He is taken by Minene in trying to take a bottle of potassium cyanide off a shelf. He falls down when Minene is trying to take him away, and it is here Minene finds a very abnormal list of his. Normally, 5th quickly takes the bottle and his list away from her. After quite a discussion between her and 5th, he decides to run away, crying. Minene goes after him and manages to find out that he would go to the Chrome Plating Factory to search after some hydrocyanicacid. 5th is soon shown on a bicycle at the factory, however he did not have to search long, after he manages to find both the hydrocyanicacid and his dolls at the same place. Of course, Minene sat a trap there, however 5th only decided to take the hydrocyanicacid and therefore the trap was not released, because of the reason that Minene placed them at the dolls.

At the same time in the Sakurami Police Department there have been received a word that the factory that Minene happened to be in had been held up (obviously by Minene), and Nishijima is quick to suspect her after the details has revealed that the person had an eyepatch.

Later, 5th is placed in the Self Defense Shop in the Sakurami Shopping District. The storekeeper, Yoshi Gorou, is extremely surprised to see a child visiting her shop, and her surprise strengthens when 5th is asking after a stun gun and a gas mask. However, only one page after 5th is seen actually been giving the think he asked for, however right under the disk where the storekeeper happens to be at, Minene is kneeling down, pointing a gun at Yoshi. Soon Yoshi starts showing a couple of dolls to 5th, which obviously happens to be those of his own. However, 5th refuses to take his dolls back once again.

What seems like only a couple of minutes later, the police is shown inspecting the several places Minene and 5th has happened to visit during this chapter.

Fourth chapter

In the fourth manga Minene's confrontation with 3th is shown partly and her reunion with Masumi Nishijima.

Fifth chapter

In the fifth and last manga Minene meets Akise Aru, who helps her despite knowing who she really is. Minene takes off to participate in a miss contest in Sakurami City during a festival. The other participants are Hinata Hino, Ai Mikami, Ueshita Kamado, Yuki's mother Rea Amano, Mao Nonosaka and Miyashiro Orin. Instead of who is the most pretty, the contest is about throwing darts, solving a puzzle and arm wrestling. Minene wins the contests by cheating her way out, but she flees before she can receive her prize. Akise goes to the starving Minene and brings her food that the shop owners sent her for brightening the festival and the contest.

In the end Reisuke is shown visiting his deceased parents in a body bag and he goes to sleep next to the body bags with Minene wishing him a peaceful sleep.
